Ecological collapse threatens lakes Chokrak and Kivsh and buffer lakes near Saky in occupied Crimea. The foul odour from the shallow lakes spreads for many kilometres.
Locals also say the water colour has become unnatural.

It is very likely, swallowing and possible discharges have changed the lake composition. In any case, the specific odour and significant colour change suggest the lakes could soon become the epicentres of the ecological collapse in the Saki-adjacent area.

The occupation authorities are not responding to the threat.
