On April 7, experts from our Association Borys Babin and Anna Prykhodko took part in an event of the International Renaissance Foundation program “Restrictions on Human Rights in the Russia-Occupied Territories of Ukraine”, at which human rights activists and representatives of state authorities shared their experience in forming a systemic state policy of Ukraine regarding the occupied territories, in particular Crimea, and the role of the expert community and international organizations in this.
The meeting became a platform for discussing legal challenges related to the restriction of human rights in the occupied Russian territories of Ukraine. The focus of the discussion was the state policy of Ukraine regarding residents of the occupied territories, legal aspects of derogation from international obligations in the field of human rights, as well as practical problems arising in the context of the restriction of certain rights and freedoms in wartime.
The participants of the meeting discussed possible approaches to improving state policy, in particular in the areas of countering collaborative activities, ensuring citizens’ access to administrative and social services, maintaining the connection of the population of the occupied territories with Ukraine, and preparing for future reintegration.
The experts of the ARC shared with the participants of the event the achievements of our Association on countering occupation and proposed a number of specific steps to enhance the effectiveness of the development and improvement of Ukraine’s state policy towards the occupied territories.
