On December 8, ARC expert Borys Babin took part in an interactive panel discussion on the occasion of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to education, at which the Rapporteur Farida Shaheed discussed topical issues of protecting youth rights at the global level. During the panel discussion,
Professor Babin emphasized the importance of aspects of the aggressor’s systematic and total violation of the educational rights of deported Ukrainian children and the need to take into account such a violation in the relevant United Nations documents.
The specified challenges and the corresponding development of the Association were simultaneously presented by expert Babin on December 8 during the moderation of the profile panel “Developing a Framework for the Return of Unlawfully Deported Children” of the international summit “Stand Tall for the Rule of International Law”, which is held in Lviv by the Ukrainian and American Societies of International Law.
In the framework of a panel’s lively discussion, aspects of the qualification of the deportation of children by the aggressor, of the elements of the retaliatory crime and the circle of persons involved in it, of the challenges of rehabilitation of deported children and other youth of the occupied territories, including the Crimea, of the relevant proposals of the strategic forums “Future of Crimea” and of the aspects of practical steps regarding the return of deportees children to the Ukraine-controlled territory were discussed at.
