On December 27, our Association’s expert Borys Babin took part in the press conference “Four Years of the International Crimea Platform: Achievements, Challenges and Prospects for Institutionalization”, held by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center to present the achievements of the IV Strategic Forum “The Future of Crimea”.
The press conference was attended by the Chairman of the Board of the Center Eskender Bariiev, the Center’s manager Tetyana Savchuk, Professor Yevhen Khlobistov and Associate Professor Olga Volanyuk, participants of the IV Strategic Forum.
The particpants recalled that at the Forum, the experts considered the International Crimea Platform from both a political and legal perspective and determined, what regulatory legal acts regulate the Platform’s activities and how they contribute to its effective work. In addition, the participants conducted a self-assessment of the work of the Platform’s Expert Network and identified their weaknesses and strengths, as well as opportunities.
Based on these studies, the Forum developed recommendations for the Crimea Platform, for its Expert Network, as well as for the governments of the Crimea Platform member states.
In his speech, Professor Babin described the relevant international and national regulatory framework and at the same time commented on the Forum’s recommendations on the institutionalization of the Platform. As an example of the need to strengthen the institutionalization of the Platform, he cited the current environmental disaster off the coast of Crimea, caused by the occupiers, which requires an immediate international response.
The expert emphasized that the Platform participants should agree on its formalization as an international organization by adopting a collective treaty or other statutory act, or as a formalized series of international conferences, and at the same time determine the international legal framework for the activities, financial and personnel support of the working body (secretariat) of the Platform.
