Another “storm in a teacup” is flaring up in occupied Sevastopol, organized by the remnants of the Aleksei Chaly’s clan and the “media resources” under its control, after it became known about the “awarding” in 2024 of a “medal” dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the attempted annexation of the city to the sanctioned agent of the Russian special services and propagandist of the aggressor Oleg Matveychev.
Before the occupation of the peninsula, Matveychev visited Crimea, according to him, up to ten times a year, and later he became the aggressor’s key “talking head” from “United Russia” and a deputy of the State Duma of the eighth “spill”, in addition to the fake Sevastopol “medal” he has a whole iconostasis of Russian awards.
Matveychev “became famous” for the fact that during the Russian intervention in Kazakhstan in 2021, he called on Russian troops to rape and torture the wives of Kazakh businessmen who supported the uprising at the time. After the start of large-scale aggression against Ukraine, the propagandist co-authored the famous statement about “Kyiv in three days”.
At the same time, Matveychev’s daughter, Russian spy Lidiya Slutskovsky, the wife of Danila Slutskovsky, former Ivanov, lives in Geneva and she worked for the organization “Globethics”, “which deals with ethics issues in universities”, with a salary from Matveychev’s own “Vremya” foundation.
However, the current anger from Chalys’ clan arose for another reason. In 2015-2016, Matveychev was actively involved in the removal of the Chalys from the “Sevastopol helm” by the Russian special services under Gauleiter Sergey Menyaylo. At that time, Matveychev was the curator of the propaganda “documentary” film “The Fourth Defense of Sevastopol”, the release of which even caused a “deputy investigation” in the “legislative assembly” of Sevastopol, then still filled with Chalys’ henchmen.
In the film and subsequent publications, Matveychev accused Sevastopol residents of Ukrainian mentality, a penchant for direct democracy and other “Ukrainian bacilli”. Moreover, Matveychev directly pointed out that Chaly’s people were Russian puppets, while in fact, saboteurs from Oleg Belaventsev and Menyaylo played a significant role in the occupation of the city, that “his saboteurs, whom he actually trained, carried out a very large part of the sabotage work. This was appreciated by the leadership” of aggressor.
Therefore, one can expect that the current tragicomic “indignation at the award” will remain only on the pages of “information resources” so far associated with the Chalys.
