In occupied Sevastopol, a characteristic, tragicomic epic has been developing in the last few months to “identify saboteurs” and “fifth column” in the illegal “Sevastopol State University” that we have described many times, the public mouthpiece of which, in obvious coordination with one of the occupiers’ special services groups, was such an information dump as “ForPost”.
The local collaborator Dmitry Tatarkov, a Ukrainian serviceman who betrayed his oath, a former associate professor of the Department of Ship Survivability, Diving and Ship-Salvaging Works of the Faculty of Marine Power Engineering of the Nakhimov Naval Academy, was “in the crosshairs” of these “whistleblowers”.
In 2012, Tatarkov wrote and published a book about the Falklands War in Kyiv, and in 2013 he defended his PhD thesis on the subject in Odessa.
With the beginning of the occupation, the affairs of the captain of the 2nd rank in Sevastopol “went uphill”, and in the illegal “state university” this traitor to the Motherland first became the “director of the scientific and educational center” “Center for тarine research and technology”, and later “director of the Institute of social sciences and international relations” of the same “university”, and he was actively involved by the aggressor as a propagandist.
“United Russia activist” Tatarkov also “made his mark” in Sevastopol as a “co-founder” of the “center for high-tech and marine archeology” “Arhaytek”, from the same “university”, which mastered 8 million in 2018, as well as the “Association for the study and preservation of marine cultural heritage sites “Maritime Heritage” (“Morskoye naslediye”).
And in 2021-2022, he “led the project” of the “scientific and educational center” “International political studies of the Greater Mediterranean” within the framework of the “federal program” “Priority 2030”. Under it, the “university” mastered “about 200 million in the basic part and more than 400 million in the special part”, of which several million “appeared” in “salary bonuses for employees”.
The “team” that mastered these funds consisted of Gennady Kosov, a former professor at Pyatigorsk State University, and now “head of the department” “Socio-philosophical and political sciences” under the leadership of the same Tatarkov, as well as from a whole “pleiad of researchers” “transferred” to occupied Sevastopol from the same Stavropol Territory, or “involved in research” without moving to the captured peninsula.
At the same time, as their “exposers” “lament”, the Sevastopol “university” was excluded from the “special part of funding” of “Priority 2030” in 2023, and by the end of 2024, it will probably be removed from its “general part”.
However, at first the “investigators” focused not on this, but on the “falsification of scientific texts” of four “collective studies” of the aforementioned figures, published since 2022.
However, at this stage, the “university”, as was evident from the formal replies published by the “whistleblowers”, did not “air its dirty linen in public” and rejected accusations of plagiarism, violation of publication procedures, and the like.
And so, at the end of December, the “investigators” decided to “play their trump cards”, focusing on the content of the book published by the “university”, “Digital Regional Studies of the Greater Mediterranean. Ukraine: Interim Results” with 11 co-authors, including the described figures.
The new “accusations” boil down to the fact that this publication contains statistical data, diagrams and maps from European sources, which quite expectedly state Ukrainian sovereignty over the Crimean Peninsula and the mainland territories of the country, occupied by Russia.
The researchers are also accused of finding “inscriptions in English” on these materials, as well as a quote that “in terms of quality of life indicators, Russia is 8 points behind Ukraine”, tragicomically stating that on such issues “our own, domestic statistics also exist”; they also found a phrase in English on the maps, marking “the eastern regions where Russia has begun an offensive”.
The “exposers” dug up a similar reprint of the map in another “collective publication” of the aforementioned group.
But the Sevastopol Nazis from “ForPost” were especially outraged by the book’s quote that in Ukraine “territorially, languages are distributed in accordance with the compact residence of various ethnic groups, which can be represented as follows: … the Gypsy language – Transcarpathia, Crimea, Odessa region.”
The fact that someone in Crimea dared to “speak the Gypsy language” clearly outraged these “guardians of racial purity of the Russian world” even more than the European maps with Ukrainian Crimea and Donetsk.
As the “whistleblowers” gloat about this, “the facts presented in the editorial materials have already attracted the attention of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, the Sevastopol Prosecutor’s Office, the Sevastopol Department of Internal Affairs, the Federal Treasury Department for Sevastopol, as well as other serious departments.”
Let us note that the described figures clearly do not belong to some “underground”, since at least the majority of them had nothing common with Ukraine before the “Sevastopol studies”, and Tatarkov himself is listed in the aforementioned publications as a “wedding admiral” who clearly did not delve into the contents of “his” books. And the long-standing rhetoric of this collaborator in support of Russian aggression speaks for itself.
The real motives behind this “case of associate professors” are quite simple: it is the dissatisfaction of the Russian special services with the extremely small “achievements” in recent years of the “Sevastopol State University” in terms of the goals set for it in “scientific”, “expert” and propaganda support for Russian intelligence operations in the Mediterranean region and the “global South”.
Now, as expected, everything will be blamed on the “fifth column” and “groveling before decaying Western science”.
There is also a “university fronda”, pushed away from “developing grants”, which became especially active when their “federal flow” clearly dried up.
And therefore it is not surprising that the corresponding “initiative” commentators are now demanding “to disperse this gang office to hell” and “there is something for the Investigative Committee to do”, after which “all those involved will go to jail”.
More sane citizens write “the only thing we need is some kind of “case of associate professors”… You read the comments and you understand who wrote the denunciations in 1937”. However, no one is going to listen to their opinion in this “fight against cosmopolitans” now.
