On April 16, our Association’s expert Borys Babin took part in a mixed-format roundtable discussion in Kyiv titled “Security and European Integration in the Black Sea Region: Ukraine–Moldova,” organized at the media center of the Directorate-General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions.
The event discussed the current state of Ukraine’s and Moldova’s European integration process, the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation in education and science, the challenges and threats of Russian influence in the Ukrainian-Moldovan cross-border region, and mechanisms for countering subversive practices of Russia’s neo-imperialist policy.
At the roundtable, special attention was paid to the speeches of the newly appointed Ambassador of Moldova to Ukraine Victor Chirilă, of the Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic of Moldova Adrian Balutel, and People’s Deputy of Ukraine Vadym Galaychuk. Also extremely interesting were the speeches of representatives of the Gagauz community of Ukraine and Moldova, experts Ivan Kapsamun and Mihail Sirkeli.
In his own report, Professor Babin focused on countering Russia`s subversive policy in the region, which uses both the ethnic factor and a wide range of measures of economic influence and direct sabotage, in particular using the occupied Crimea as a springboard. As a positive example of such counteraction, the expert cited the results of the Third Black Sea Security Conference of the International Crimea Platform, held in Chisinau.
