In the framework of sustainable cooperation with key global academic institutions, an expert from our Association Professor Borys Babin took online participation on July, 30 in the open lecture of Dr. Emily Channell-Justice, Director of the Temerty Contemporary Ukraine Program at Harvard University “Displacement, Emplacement, and Reintegration: IDP Experiences, 2014-2021,” moderated by Vlad Nekhoroshykh.
This presentation explored the question of how anthropologists must navigate the context of war to continue to do research. Professor Emily Channell-Justice described the process of internal displacement in Ukraine since 2014, which was then disrupted by the full-scale invasion.
Data sources, ethical issues during ongoing hostilities, and the possibilities of researchers’ collaborative work were discussed. In such a framework, Professor Babin initiated the discussion on the role of OSCE ODIHR and UN OHCHR reports about the internal displacement from Crimea and East of Ukraine, as well as the relevant European Court of Human Rights’ statistics.
Also Professor Babin participated on July 31 in the discussion “Criminal Prosecution of Ukrainian Prisoners of War in Occupied Territories and the Russian Federation”, organised by the Office of the International Renaissance Foundation in Kyiv. Participants exchanged their opinions about forms of effective counteraction the aggressor’s illegal practice of falsification cases, in that framework issues of aggressor’s repressions in cases of “Crimean Tatar Battalion” were mentioned by our Association’s expert.
