As we reported earlier, on May 12, the ceremonial opening of the The 1st Crimea Week “Thinking of People, not Territories” took place in Brussels. It was an initiative that ran until May 16 and was designed to draw the attention of the international community to the situation on the occupied peninsula and to protect the rights of its residents.
The Crimea Week in Brussels was a series of high-level discussions, cultural events and expert exchanges aimed at strengthening European cooperation on Crimea, which is under Russian occupation. The Crimea Week was co-organised by Ukrainian and international civil society, in close cooperation with EU institutions.
Among other things, human rights activists and representatives of Crimean Tatar organizations discussed issues related to the occupied peninsula at a number of venues, including the European Parliament.
Representative of our Association Maria Varfolomeeva also took an active part in this series of events, sharing information about the current activities and achievements of the ARC with the participants of the 1st Crimea Week.
Among other things, on May 16, at the event “Children Under Occupation: Indocrination, Militarization and Persecution of Ukrainian Youth in Occupied Crimea”, the representative of the Association initiated a discussion about the fate of Ukrainian children in Crimea, involved by the occupiers in the activities of the criminal “Youth Army”, as the new Kremlin’s “cannon fodder”.
