On April 9 our Association’s experts, Professor Borys Babin and Dr. Anna Prikhodko participated in the Inaugural Georgia-Ukraine Seminar “Journalism in Times of War and Uncertainty”, held by the Program on Georgian Studies at the Davis Center and the Temerty Contemporary Ukraine Program of Harvard University.
This discussion, held by David Herszenhorn, East Europe editor at “The Washington Post”, Ia Meurmishvili, formed Managing Editor of Voice of America’s Georgian Service and Ukrainian-American journalist David Kirichenko, covered the current media landscape in Georgia and Ukraine, the challenges and uncertainties journalists face on the ground, and their perspectives on the path forward.
From the frontlines of Russia’s war in Ukraine to the everyday fights for media independence in Georgia, the speakers shared their experiences in two rapidly shifting landscapes, both of which bring lessons for an American and global audience.
In the framework of that seminar ARC’s experts presented their own experience of attending side-events, organised by Georgian NGO and journalists in OSCE Vienna meeting this March, discussing the challenges for journalism in Russia-occupied territories in Georgia and Ukraine, including the Crimea.
Association’s representatives stressed the importance of the next international activities at OSCE, Council of Europe and UN fields, fruitful for joint initiatives of democratic Ukrainian and Georgian journalists, including countering disinformation and defending the truth and victims of Russian aggression.
