In permanent cooperation with UN bodies and agencies our Association sent in 2025own submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on Climate Change, Professor Elisa Morgera, for her thematic report of fossil fuel-based economy and human rights to the Human Rights Council 59th session.
In our submission, published at the UN official web-sources now, the Association stressed that Russia has a fossil fuel-based economy and that exactly the trafficking of Russian oil and gas via Ukraine was one of the “commercial” grounds of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
ARC’s submission reminded about catastrophe that occurred on December 15, 2024 in the waters of the Black Sea south of the Kerch Strait with the Russian tankers “Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239” and stressed that system of Russian tankers “Volgoneft” is an essential part of the Russian oil empire and of logistic and cargo support the Russian oceanic oil tanker fleet.
ARC’s submission added on such issue, that in 2025, Russia can continue to exploit up to 80 “surviving” “Volgonefts” for the purposes of its oil complex, of which at least 15-20 will be actively used by the Russian invaders in Azov-Black Sea shipping, creating huge challenges for maritime safety, security and for maritime environment.
Also ARC’s submission added that negative climate changes are not the side effect of Russian aggression against Ukraine, but it is one of Russia’s major goals.
As it is known, submission points, the Kremlin administration uses in the propaganda narratives a thesis that global warming and ocean level rise are allegedly useful for Russia as such a situation will allegedly allow developing actively the natural resources of Russia-controlled northern part of Eurasia and Arctic area.
So damage connected with climate changes, caused by Russian aggression and by Russia, as the fossil fuel economy state, is committed by Russia-controlled structures with direct intent and it includes relevant disinformation and misinformation campaigns, ARC’s submission summarised.
Our cooperation with UN bodies on those issues will be continued.
