On February 21, the aggressor’s propaganda announced the loss of the “Seamark” dry cargo ship, IMO 8861034 number, which was anchored near Novorossiysk under the flag of the Comoros.
It is reported that the ship allegedly “broken due to a strong storm”, and it sank, there were 11 people on board, allegedly “citizens of Russia”, at least the death of one of them is indicated, the aggressor is silent about the fate and nature of the cargo.
It should be noted that the “Seamark”, sailing from the Turkish port of Iskenderun, was built more than forty years ago and until 2000 was listed as the aggressor’s Irtysh Shipping Company, but since the beginning of the 90s she has been operated under different flags on the Black Sea.
Since 2006, the Turkish operator “Sailtrade Denizcilic” has been declared as its owner, but at the time of its death, the ship, which had previously changed flags several times and was listed under sanctioned Russian classifiers, was registered with “Crios Shipping Llc”, registered in Dubai.
At the same time, this company from the UAE operates at least 4 container ships and two dry cargo ships, and in 2023 “Seamark” was classified by the London-based International Maritime Risk Rating Agency (IMRRA) in the “red zone” of risks, that is, the ship was obviously dangerous for navigation.
Thus, the “Russian Maritime Register of Shipping”, by illegally issuing documents to such an obviously outdated and unsuitable ship for maritime navigation, contributed to the current disaster, which clearly entails environmental risks for all Black Sea ecosystems, including the waters adjacent to the Russia-occupied Crimea.
