On September 18, experts from our Association, Borys Babin and Eduard Pleshko, actively participated in the South-Ukrainian Practical Forum held in Odesa. The in-person event brought together justice authorities, notaries, human rights defenders, and Supreme Court judges.
The forum focused on the practical challenges facing the Ukrainian notary system amidst large-scale Russian aggression and explored ways to address them. It featured in-depth presentations by judges Andrii Hrushytskyi, Andrii Kalarash and Yevhen Petrov, as well as by distinguished scholars and practitioners such as Professor Yana Tytska and Associate Professor Kateryna Karpova.
Key discussion topics included notarial services for Ukrainian military personnel and their families, as well as for business entities operating under martial law.
During the specialized discussion, the Association’s experts raised issues regarding notarial acts involving temporarily occupied territories and individuals located there. They also addressed the specifics of this work in the context of protecting and verifying the rights of internally displaced persons, particularly those from Crimea.
Additionally, the forum addressed the integration of notaries displaced from temporarily occupied territories and combat zones, as well as aspects of their professional self-organization.
Professor Babin also shared his insights on the current state of international legal mechanisms for holding the aggressor, its officials, and other Russian international criminals accountable. This included a discussion on the involvement of the Ukrainian legal community in these processes.
