On May 15, our Association’s experts Borys Babin and Anna Prikhodko took an active part in the expert hearing “The Right to Memory: on 80th Anniversary of Memory of Victims of Genocide of the Crimean Tatar People” held at the Ukrainian State University named after Mikhail Drahomanov.
On the subject of the hearings, the rector of the University Viktor Andrushchenko and the Director of its Research Center Konstantin Zakharenko, people’s deputy Vladimir Ariev, head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Eskender Bariiev, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Riza Shevkiev, representative of the National Council of Ukraine for Television and Radio Broadcasting Vladimir Lyashenko.
In his speech, Professor Babin recalled the challenges associated with a full-fledged legal response to acts of genocide, committed by the aggressor and to calls for genocide that are continued in the occupiers’ propaganda. The ARC expert, based on researches, conducted by the Association, pointed to the relevant international mechanisms and characterized the current situation with the ongoing Ukrainian national legal processes regarding genocide.
