According to the aggressor’s “media”, the State duma Russian on June 1 “denounced the Agreement between Russia and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait”. Let us recall that this Agreement, which has not been implemented by Russia since 2003 regarding the delimitation of the Sea of Azov and the agreement on the Kerch Strait, was denounced by Ukraine on February 24, 2023, including due to the ongoing Russia’s maritime aggression.
Let us recall that after the occupation of Crimea and the illegal construction of the “Crimean Bridge”, the aggressor blocked, violating this agreement, the passage of Ukrainian ships through the Kerch Strait, which led to the “Kerch Incident” of 2018 and two processes in international arbitration, initiated by Ukraine.
We also must note that in 2022 Ukraine terminated the bilateral agreement on fishery in the Sea of Azov, which provided for the work of the Ukrainian-Russian commission and the signing of bilateral protocols. Both this agreement and the 2003 treaty were the subject of expert criticism.
As we have already reported in case 420/8381/20, the Ukrainian Supreme Court in 2023 established the need to investigate inaction to not terminate the bilateral fishery agreement in 2014-2022.
Due to a characteristic “coincidence”, the retrial of this case, scheduled for June 1 in the Odessa court, was postponed due to a provocative message from unidentified persons, received by the governing body.
