As “The Insider” told on February 14, former president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), Swiss René Fasel, received Russian citizenship.
Also, together with the passport of the Russian Federation, Fasel, as follows from the registers of the aggressor, acquired a 54% stake in the “Alma Holding” company, co-owned by businessman Gennady Timchenko close to Vladimir Putin.
René Fasel led the IIHF from 1994 to 2021. In addition, all this time he was a member of the International Olympic Committee, and from 2008 to 2016 he was a member of the IOC Executive Committee. During this period, Russia received the right to host the Ice Hockey World Championship three times, as well as the Winter Olympics.
While in office, Fasel repeatedly spoke positively about Putin, as well as Lukashenka, and met with them in an informal setting.
Fasel’s acquisition of Russian citizenship is not accidental, since in Switzerland he is suspected of corruption, namely, of receiving a bribe of 400,000 francs for the victory of one of the companies in a tender for the rights to broadcast the hockey world championships.
At the same time, Fazel’s business partner, oligarch Timchenko, is an active accomplice of the Kremlin in the criminal processes of the occupation of the Crimea. Among other things, Gennady Timchenko’s “Stroytransgaz” and other structures of his “Volga Group” were involved by the Russian invaders in the illegal construction of the so-called “cultural cluster” in Sevastopol and the propaganda complex “Tavrida” near Sudak.
