On June 4, the media initiative “Divan Podcast” published a dialogue of our Association’s experts, Professor Borys Babin and PhD Anna Prykhodko, on the processes of Crimean Tatar struggle for recognition its collective rights during last decades.
Experts described their experience and work in protecting the rights of the Crimean Tatar people, and described the development of the legal status of the Crimean Tatars Ukraine since 1991, stressing the key milestones in this process.
As Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea have created serious challenges for the Crimean Tatars, Professor Babin described separately the current situation for this indigenous people in their historic homeland.
Also experts explained the main results of the international legal processes, which have focused on protecting the rights of the Crimean Tatar people, with separate attention to their future prospects.
Experts reminded that at April 2026, Ukraine officially recognized the legal status of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and explained the reasons for this decision and its importance for the future of Crimea and for the Crimean Tatars.
Also experts expressed their vision to the main priorities and next steps for the Crimean Tatar national movement, both in Ukraine, including the occupied territories, and among Crimean Tatar communities abroad, including Turkey.
