In the framework of permanent cooperation with United Nations’ bodies and agencies, our Association communicated with the Committee on Enforced Disappearances and the Working Group on Enforced Disappearances for the preparation of their joint statement on enforced disappearances in the context of transnational repression.
The ARC submission, published on the UN’s official web-sources now, stressed that since the outbreak of the Russian aggression in 2014 and especially after the full-scale invasion in 2022, the practice of enforced disappearances has become one of the most common methods of intimidation and repression of citizens in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The ARC submission reminded the UN of the relevant judgments of the European Court of Human Rights that established the existence of Russia’s systemic practice regarding enforced disappearances in all Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine, including the Crimea.
The ARC submission stressed again that the issues of enforced disappearances committed by foreign occupying forces in occupied territories, especially in conjunction with political repressions and with interregional enforced transition of kidnapped persons, must be researched by the international bodies exactly in the context of transnational repression.
