On February 24, Crimean Tatar activist Lia Gazi (Motrechko) participated in the extraordinary plenary session of the European Parliament in Brussels upon the invitation of the Parliament’s Social Media and Digital Multipliers Unit.
The session was devoted to commemorating the fourth anniversary of the broad-scale Russian aggression for reflection and solidarity with Ukraine.
During the visit, Lia Gazi discussed with members of the European Parliament, journalists, and experts issues of supporting Crimean Tatars’ resilience against occupation, our Association’s activities and investigations’ results, and also the European sanction policy.
Issues of countering the lifting of EU sanctions on Russian Crimea-connected officials, of countering circumvention of sanctions by Russian shipowners, challenges of the delay and incompleteness of sanctions packages, including pro-Russian lobbying in the EU from certain states, and illegal continuation of the European structures’ activities in the Crimea, relevant challenges of aggressor’s drones and artificial intelligence development and usage were discussed.
During communication with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, Lia Gazi initiated discussion on the perspectives and ways of liberating Crimea and on the role of Crimea in European security. Dr. Metsola stressed to our expert on the EU’s overwhelming support and solidarity with Crimean Tatars and all Ukrainians, reminding the principle “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine”.
