On December 17, experts from our Association, Borys Babin, Kateryna Karpova, and Eduard Pleshko, took an active part in a forum held by the organization “The Tenth of April” within the framework of the project “Voices of Witnesses – Stories for Justice” to discuss policies for assisting victims of war crimes committed by Russian forces during the aggression against Ukraine.
The event was attended by experts, psychologists, and lawyers from human rights organizations, by the specialists from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights, the Committee of Voters of Ukraine, of the state authorities and self-government bodies, and by scientists.
As part of the forum panel dedicated to the legal and organizational challenges of documenting war crimes and protecting their victims, PhD Kateryna Karpova pointed out the role of justice and notary public in assisting victims of war crimes committed by the aggressor, including those committed in the occupied territories of Ukraine, among other things, the issue of the possible procedural role of notaries in certifying the relevant circumstances was raised.
Moderating the panel, Professor Borys Babin emphasized the importance of developing methodologies for determining moral damage caused by the aggressor in relevant national civil and criminal proceedings and in international bodies of judicial and administrative jurisdiction. The expert also shared the relevant achievements of our Association in assisting victims of war crimes of Russians from the occupied Crimea.
PhD Eduard Pleshko shared with the forum participants his own scientific achievements on algorithms for increasing the efficiency of investigating war crimes committed by the aggressor; the activities of our experts in this dimension will be continued.
