On March 17, experts of our Association, Borys Babin and Olesya Tsybulko took active participation in events of OSCE Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting “The role of media in conflict and humanitarian crises, reflecting on International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law”, that started in Vienna, Austria.
On the side-event “The role of media self-regulation during wartime”, convened by OSCE Secretariat Dr. Borys Babin stressed on importance of next support the “Krym.Realii” and “Donbas.Realii” as “Radio.Liberty” projects in situation of U.S. stopping relevant funding those activities, directly connected with freedom of media.
Also Ms. Tsybulko initiated discussion on countering the Russia-committing tortures against civil hostages and prisoners of war of Crimean origin at the side-event “Civil liberties under Russia`s attack”, organised by Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the OSCE.
This event was featured by the testimony of Mr. Maxim Butkevych, a human rights activist, journalist, and public figure dedicated to defending human rights, supporting refugees, combating xenophobia and discrimination, and advocating for internally displaced persons. As a former prisoner of war, Mr. Butkevych exposed Russia’s key narratives and disinformation campaign used to justify the war.
Also ARC’s experts exchanged their own opinions about the development of the situation with Russia-controlled “civil society structures” in OSCE with Professor Sebastien Peyrous from Elliott School of International Affairs in George Washington University, who continues own scientific research on those issues.
