For the last two years, more than a hundred artesian wells have been mineralised in occupied Crimea, former head of the Crimean Republic Committee on Water Management and Irrigated AgricultureOleksandr Liev said. He believes wells can be no longer used for drinking water supply. Furthermore, salinification and mineralisation will continue on the peninsula, especially in steppe.

‘This is a common phenomenon. That’s what we are facing again in Crimea after 50 years. Artesianwells on the peninsula are 50 years old, whereas their service life was initially estimated at 15-20years. The wells were revitalised after that period and exploited afterwards. They cannot be revitalisedany more, since water is not safe for drinking’, Oleksandr Liev said.
