At the end of December 2025, our Association published a report commemorating the anniversary of the Russian “Volgoneft” tanker disaster near the Kerch Strait, exposing the actions and negligence of the occupiers in “eliminating” the environmental consequences of the sea’s pollution with thousands of tons of fuel oil.
Among other things, the report exposed the involvement of tankers of this “small” type in transshipment operations, as well as in the transportation of petroleum products in the Mediterranean, Black, and Caspian Seas. These facts have subsequently been reported in the press of several countries, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Turkey.
Our Association has now sent a report to national maritime administrations, sanctions authorities, international organizations, and key global maritime business and environmental institutions, informing them of the ongoing risks to maritime safety and the environment posed by the activities of “Volgoneft” tankers.
Among other things, we demand a tightening of the relevant sanctions policy against Russian maritime administrations and classification societies, as well as a ban on “Volgoneft”-class tankers from using international straits, canals, inland waterways, and calling at ports in third countries.
