On October 15, our Association’s expert Anna Prykhodko took part in the panel discussion “Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine: How to Preserve Culture and Traditions,” which was organized at the Kyiv “Gulliver” Center. The discussion, with the participation of artists, experts, and community representatives, discussed the preservation of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine.
“We strive to show that the history of Ukraine is the history of all its peoples. Crimean Tatars, Karaites, and Krymchaks are small in number, but have a great influence on the culture of Ukraine. Our goal is to make their voices heard,” says Iryna Taranenko, co-founder of “Books-Journeys.”
The Association’s expert discussed with the participants of the discussion our achievements in the field of protecting the cultural rights of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine in conditions of the occupation of Crimea.
The panel discussion was also dedicated to the opening of the exhibition “Books-Journeys. Roots of Crimea”, which will tell about the traditions of the Crimean Tatars, Karaims and Krymchaks.
The exposition became part of the new project “Book-journey. Roots of Crimea”, which combined an exhibition and a series of animated films.
At the exhibition, visitors were offered an alphabet of words about the culture of the Crimean Tatars, Karaims and Krymchaks; works by the Crimean Tatar artist Rustem Skybin; national clothes of the Karaims; dresses from “Gaptulvalnya”, inspired by the national clothes of the Crimean Tatars.
