On February 24, our Association’s expert, Professor Borys Babin, made a presentation at an interactive round table for the International Mother Language Day “Language Unites”. The event at the “Mystetskyi Arsenal” of Kyiv was organized within the framework of specialized projects of the Council of Europe and was attended by the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Taras Kremin, people’s deputies, members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People and of the national communities, Chairman of the Council of National Communities of Ukraine Ashot Avanesyan and officials of the State Ukrainian Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience. The round table was moderated by the Chairman of the “Union of Karaites of Ukraine”, Professor Elena Arabadzhi.
In his report, Professor Babin drew the attention of officials, specialists and representatives of ethnic communities to the situation that emerged after the International Court of Justice made a decision on Russia’s violation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in occupied Crimea, in particular in the field of education in the Ukrainian language.
The expert unveiled a vision of the needs for a systemic response to relevant challenges, to further provocations of the aggressor and to discriminatory measures taken by him in the occupied territory, and described the directions for further human rights, educational and expert activities.
