According to a number of sources, on December 17, the UN General Assembly adopted another annual resolution “Situation of human rights in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol” (draft A/C.3/79/L.44).
It is indicated that the document was supported by 81 countries, 14 voted “against”, 80 abstained; the draft document, supported on November 20 by the Third Committee, was put forward by 44 countries, which were later joined by 5 more. Let us recall that in 2024, our Association sent more than 20 submissions concerning the occupied territories to the UN bodies, working with the Third Committee on this issue.
The document condemns the war of aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine in violation of Article 2 (4) of the Charter of the United Nations, and the use of temporarily occupied Crimea for this and to support the attempted illegal annexation of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
The resolution condemns the incitement of hatred towards Ukraine, Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, as well as the dissemination of disinformation aimed at “justifying” the aggressive war of Russia against Ukraine, including its dissemination with the “assistance of the education system and youth policy”.
The resolution condemns the continued use of the occupied territories of Ukraine to carry out strikes throughout Ukraine using missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian objects, including deliberate attacks on vital energy infrastructure and attacks affecting medical facilities.
