On August 29, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center presented a full-length documentary film “Witnesses of the 1944 Genocide” with Turkish subtitles on the YouTube platform. It is reported that this film is dedicated to the investigation and recognition of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as an act of genocide.
It is indicated that “witnesses of this terrible crime in the film talk about the fates of hundreds of thousands of other deported Crimean Tatars. The footage presented in the film is exclusive. It was filmed during court hearings as part of the investigation of criminal proceedings on the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people in 1944.”
Let us recall that before the large-scale aggression, the Center took Crimean Tatar veterans from occupied Crimea to the Kherson region for their interrogation as witnesses and victims by the investigative judges of Ukraine in the genocide case.
Now, several years later, it is reported that “some of the heroes of the film are no longer alive, but their testimony will forever remain legally relevant and will serve as a source of objective information about the terrible tragedy of the indigenous people of Crimea.”
As we wrote earlier, the criminal investigation into the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people itself was suspended by the SBU in 2021.
This happened after obvious procedural sabotage was committed in it, such as publicly announcing suspicions to obviously dead Soviet functionaries.
And this happened after several years of cynical PR by certain “especially respected and untouchable” individuals, who were most likely connected not only with certain well-known oil companies, but also with not only the commercial interests of the aggressor state.
The Center’s new film also included comments from our Association’s expert, Professor Borys Babin.
