On April 25, as part of the “Book Country” festival in Kyiv, a meeting “Rediscovering the Peninsula: Crimea in Modern Ukrainian Literature” was held.
The speakers of the event were the founder of the literary project “Crimean Fig” Alim Aliyev and the author of the apocalyptic fantasy novel “House of Salt” Svetlana Taratorina; the meeting was moderated by the Crimean Tatar director and Ukrainian military man Akhtem Seitablayev.
During the discussion, the prospects for the Crimea within the framework of its deoccupation and reintegration, the historical fate of the Crimean Tatar people and the future of literature and cinema on Crimean topics were actively discussed.
An expert of our Association, Anna Prikhodko, raised, as part of a discussion of the prospects for the artistic representation of the peninsula, aspects of the film adaptation of works such as “House of Salt”, taking into account the commercial success of projects with similar issues such as “Dune”, or “The Three-Body Problem”, the plot of which was directly inspired by criminals Crimean experiments of the Soviet and Russian military machine.
