On December 9, experts from our Association, Boris Babin, Kateryna Karpova, and Eduard Pleshko, took an active part in the judicial and legal forum “Human Rights Protection under Martial Law,” organized in Odessa by the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, and the public organization “The Tenth of April”.
In the forum discussions, judges of local and appellate courts of various jurisdictions, of the Supreme Court, attorneys, lawyers of human rights organizations, state registrars, notaries, representatives of the International Registry of Damages, state authorities and local governments, and international non-governmental organizations expressed their own views.
The participants analyzed the current challenges of protecting the rights of the affected population in the judicial and administrative order, in particular regarding the compensation mechanism, registration of legal facts that occurred in the occupied territories of Ukraine, in particular in Crimea, inheritance, security, credit disputes, pension and social payments.
At the event, the ARC experts discussed the issues of increasing the level of professional interaction between representatives of different fields of activity, developing coordinated practice and common approaches to resolving problematic issues that arise when ensuring the protection of the rights of persons affected by the war.
In his own speech at the forum panel dedicated to claims against structures associated with the aggressor, Professor Borys Babin paid special attention to aspects of proceedings against persons who carry out unlawful tasks of the aggressor in the occupied territories, aspects of the execution of decisions of Ukrainian courts in foreign jurisdictions, and the formation of general judicial practice on these issues.
