On November 19 and 20, our Association’s expert, Boris Babin, spoke at training sessions for regional media journalists in Mykolaiv and Odesa, on the legal aspects of documenting the victims and circumstances of the aggressor’s war crimes during journalistic work.
These training sessions were held as part of the organization “The Tenth of April” project, namely, “Voices of Witnesses – Stories for Justice,” in the Southern regions of Ukraine to document the victims of Russian war crimes.
During the training sessions, Professor Babin shared our Association’s work on assisting victims of Russian aggression, the population of the occupied territories, including Crimea.
The expert focused on the specifics of war crimes, the interests of their victims, as well as those of society and the state, and on forms of procedural response, investigation, bringing perpetrators to justice, compensation, and the restoration of justice.
Training participants discussed the challenges they faced in their practical journalistic work in the frontline zone and in the de-occupied territories of the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.
Experts from the project implemented by the organization “The Tenth of April” also shared practical results from interviewing victims of war crimes, and provided journalists with recommendations on psychological and logistical preparation for conducting such interviews.
