On September 10, experts from our Association, Borys Babin and Anna Prykhodko, took online participation in the side-event at the 60th Human Rights Council Session, “Voices Against Worst Forms of Child Labour,” held in the Geneva UN Office.
The event was organized by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, including its causes and consequences, and the UN Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery; its goal was to diverse effрorts to end the worst forms of child labour and to support survivors.
During the side-event Professor Babin reminded the participants about our Association activities that fix and unmask the Russian international crimes against Ukrainian children, such as deportation, militarization, hate speech, and discrimination; relevant ARC submissions, published at UN web-sources earlier, were disseminated between the side-event participants.
During the side-event, UN Special Rapporteur Professor Tomoya Obokata presented his current Report A/HRC/60/28 “Worst forms of child labour: assessing progress and persisting challenges,” where the inputs of our Association, describing Russian crimes against children in the occupied Crimea, were mentioned.
Report A/HRC/60/28, referring to that ARC and to some other submissions, pointed out that child prostitution, sex trafficking, other forms of commercial sexual exploitation, and child pornography are also widespread globally and demanded to prohibit the recruitment of children for use in armed conflicts, and ensure child protection, including in high-risk settings.
