In framework of permanent cooperation with international bodies expert of our Association, Professor Borys Babin took an active participation in OSCE Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting, that started on May, 5 in Vienna.
During this event, named as “Protecting Civic Space: the Role of Human Rights Defenders and Freedom of Peaceful Assembly” Dr. Babin exchanged opinions about repressions against peaceful assemblies and activists in Crimea and other Russia-occupied territories with OSCE participating states’ officials, human defenders and international bodies’ officers, such as Ms. Mary Lawlor, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.
Also Professor Babin reported on Session I of that OSCE Meeting about relevant events in the Crimea, and stressed that it is not surprising, that first judgment on individual application regarding human violations in the Russia-occupied Crimea was adopted by European Court of Human Rights this February on case of Anzhelika Kosareva, arrested by Russian punishers in March, 2022 for holding up a sign “I am for peace” in Simferopol.
ARC’ expert added on issue on another European Court’s new decision, decision, in the case of “Vyacheslavova and others”, where Court in the most detailed manner, literally bit by bit and minute by minute, researched all the facts about the mass riots in Odessa in May 2014, with attempts to destroy pro-Ukranian rally and the fire in the Trade Union House.
This decision established the Russian trace in inciting the situation in the Odesa in 2014, that directly caused the tragedy of May 2nd, stressed Dr. Babin to OSCE meeting participants.
Expert also mentioned the Russian provocation against peaceful rally, when on August 8, 2024 a huge timing bomb was found in the park area in Kyiv, not far from the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine and near picket rally was held by our Association in connection with the anniversary of the beginning of the Russian-Georgian war.
And now, added Professor Babin, Russian punishers prepared next provocations in Russia itself and in the occupied territories also, on so-called rallies on May 9, including terrorist attacks against their participants, with next fake accusations of Ukraine.
