On July 23, experts of the Association of Reintegration of Crimea, Borys Babin and Anna Prykhodko, participated in the international webinar “Child Trafficking: Strengthening Accountability,” held by the Jurists for Children Worldwide (JCW) platform, co-founded by the World Jurist Association (WJA) and Just Rights for Children (JRC).
The webinar, held in the lead-up to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, was the high-level virtual gathering that brought together judges, prosecutors, and global experts to address this severe transnational crime that directly threatens fundamental human rights and the rule of law.
The speakers included Javier Cremades, President of the World Jurist Association; Bhuwan Ribhu, Founder of Just Rights for Children; Dr. Mark Charoenwong from the Office of the Attorney General of Thailand; Amy O’Neill Richard, Senior Director of Human Rights & Freedom at the McCain Institute; Geeta Sekhon, Global Consultant for the UN; and Rachna Tyagi, Partner at Ethicus Legal.
The webinar examined emerging trafficking threats, addressed modern prosecution hurdles, shared legal innovations, and explored pathways for strategic litigation to protect young victims. During the webinar, speakers and participants discussed child trafficking in conditions of interstate conflicts as a war crime or crime against humanity, its relevant features, and urgent steps of countering those crimes from the international bodies and global academician and expert community.
Relevant examples of criminal activity of Russian intelligence and “authorities” in Crimea, tied with the international criminal groups, were discussed with relevant examples, established in our Association’s investigations and analytics.
