On June 18, the authoritative Spanish media “El Confidencial” published a commentary by our Association expert Borys Babin regarding the growing logistics and fuel crisis in Russia and the occupied territories of Ukraine, including Crimea.
“Although gasoline prices at Crimean gas stations were rising until June, fuel has since begun to disappear, and there is now a catastrophic shortage. Since reserves are being diverted to the needs of the Russian army, a black market is thriving on the peninsula, and prices continue to rise,” Professor Babin noted in his commentary.
Borys Babin noted in this regard that the Kremlin dictator lives in “his own reality,” one he created himself. “It’s quite likely that in this alternative reality shaped by his entourage, including the situation in Crimea, an ‘optimistic view’ will prevail, based on the belief that ‘the situation will improve,’ which could result in new mobilizations or attempts to intensify missile attacks on Ukraine,” the Crimean expert emphasized.
However, Babin continues, the actual situation in places like occupied Crimea has little influence on the Russian leadership’s decisions, “and it seems clear that they have no anti-crisis plan and show no desire to develop one.”
