On 17 June 2025, expert of our Association, Professor Borys Babin, took part in the online event “Academic Freedom Under Threat”, held by Network for international policies and cooperation in education and training (NORRAG) from Geneva, featuring two roundtables with experts addressing contemporary threats to academic freedom across diverse global contexts.
The event, chaired by Moira V. Faul, Executive Director of NORRAG, began with welcome remarks by Noah Sobe, Chief of Section for Higher Education at UNESCO, who underscored academic freedom as a core value integral to freedom of expression and a global common good.
During the event professors Delal Aydın from Geneva Graduate Institute, Oakleigh Welply from University of Durham, Marie-Anne Persoons from Council of Europe’s Steering Committee for Education highlighted the modern challenges for academic freedom. Participants discussed the targeted attacks on race, gender, climate, and human rights issues, advocating for collective actions and solidarity to resist these pressures.
In his turn, ARC’s expert disseminated via some event’s participants our publications and materials, describing the repressions against scientists, lecturers and students, committed by Russia in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
