In framework of permanent cooperation with United Nations’ bodies our Association send submission this April for the report of UN Special Rapporteur contemporary forms of slavery Professor Tomoya Obokata, on the issue of role of the financial sector in contemporary forms of slavery, regarding the ongoing illegal trafficking of children by Russia, from and via Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine, such as the Crimea.
ARC’s submission, drafted by Dr. Borys Babin and Yulia Sydorenko and published at the UN official web-sources now, stressed that the financial sector’s reaction on those illegal activities as Russia-committed mass children trafficking, must be in compliance with sanction mechanisms, established by Ukraine, European Union, U.S., U.K. and other states.
Submission added, that such activities for counteraction the trafficking must include control of financial operations, that may be related with structures, involved in illegal usage of children by Russia, from and via Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine, and such counteraction must include ban any funding of persons and structures, included in those operations.
So exactly the control of financial operations, which may be related with structures, involved in illegal trafficking of children, and ban any funding of persons and structures, included in those operations, seem to be an effective tool of counteraction, ARC’s submission stressed.
ARC proposed to include aspects of sanctions’ control, nature of violations, adequacy of current protections and remedies, barriers to effective protection and recommendations for strengthened protection and accountability for children and their families, who are victims of slavery, enforced labor and children trafficking, on Crimea examples, into UN Rapporteur’s next thematic report.
ARC’s submission also pointed to UN Rapporteur on challenges of recognition of certain Ukrainian child as victims in criminal proceedings, connected with such common crimes, as Russian propagandists’ and officials’ calls to genocide against Ukrainian youth, or Russia’s propaganda of racial discrimination of such youth, or hate speech against them.
