On March 25, our Association’s expert Borys Babin took part in the public presentation of the analytical report “Territory of Lawlessness” held in Kyiv by the Regional Center for Human Rights.
Representatives of diplomatic missions, government bodies, non-governmental organizations and the media attended the event.
As the report stated, the aggressor has turned the occupied territories into a place where the law ceases to protect a person from the arbitrariness of the state.
Due to legal uncertainty, institutional degradation and the violent imposition of a hostile “legal order” in the occupied territories, the principles of justice, the rule of law and respect for human rights are being displaced.
The report noted such manifestations of the aggressor’s policy of lawlessness as the illegal spread of Russian legislation, the creation of “courts” and “law enforcement agencies” controlled by Russia, persecution for pro-Ukrainian positions, systematic restrictions on freedom of speech, religion and assembly, deportations and forced displacement, confiscation of property, Russification of education and militarization of childhood.
The report emphasized that these practices are part of a coordinated policy aimed at eradicating Ukrainian identity, changing the demographic composition of the population and “legalizing” the attempted annexation.
During the event, the Association’s expert shared with the participants of the presentation our achievements in countering the described international crimes of the occupiers and shared materials from the ARC investigations in the areas of deportation of the population and militarization of Crimean youth.
