After escalation of aggressor’s provocations against global food safety and Black Sea maritime safety related with Kremlin’s declaration on “termination” the grain agreements in July 2023 our Association sent next submission to IMO, ILO, FAO, PSC Memorandums, their Member States and other competent structures describing related Russia’s crimes and violations.
Such submission, prepared by Borys Babin and other ARC’s experts in framework of IMO Resolution C/ES.35, pointed again the gross and systematic violations by Russia the demands of international humanitarian and human rights law, also as maritime safety, guaranteed by the UNCLOS, SOLAS, MARPOL and STCW Conventions, Russian naval aggression in Black and Azov Seas and attacks against trade shipping.
ARC’s submission stressed that Russia’s membership in FAO, IMO and ILO, in regional organizations such as Danube Commission, Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution and Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, also as any participation Russian citizens, acting as public servants of those organizations, must be suspended, and Russia’s presence in IMO’s A category must be stopped.
On August, 4 ARC got response on this submission from Vienna-located International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River in which Commission thanked for sending concerns about Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine and the implications it may have on activities with international organizations.
Commission acknowledged also the receipt of the statement, “particularly in relation to our sister Commission, the Black Sea Commission” and stressed that this international body “understand the importance of addressing these matters and ensuring the safety and security of water resources in the region”.
